Search Consultants: Carney, Sandoe & Associates
 
In the summer of 2011, Park solicited requests for proposals from several leading search firms. Following an extensive review process, the Search Committee selected Carney, Sandoe & Associates to serve as consultants in this search. CS&A is a leader in recruiting heads at independent schools around the country, and we are excited to be working with this renowned search firm. Aggie Underwood, our lead consultant, is Vice President and Managing Associate of the firm and was Head of School at National Cathedral School and Garrison Forest School. Her Senior Search Associate colleague Chuck Burdick has 38 years of experience in five NAIS schools, including 19 years at Milton Academy. Aggie and Chuck are highly qualified and are already aware of the unique qualities that make Park School such a special place.

Agnes C. Underwood: Vice President, Director of the Search and Consulting Group
Ms. Underwood served as Headmistress of National Cathedral School, Washington, D.C., 1989 – 2003; formerly Headmistress of Garrison Forest School, Baltimore, MD 1978-1989. Board leadership experience includes: President of the Headmistresses Association; President, the Headmasters Association; President, National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls; Vice-President, Country Day Headmasters Association; Vice-President of A Better Chance; Trustee, Washington Episcopal School; Canon, Washington National Cathedral; Chair, National Association of Episcopal Schools’ Bicentennial Conference 2004; Trustee, National Association of Independent Schools. Ms. Underwood graduated from Connecticut College in New London, CT with a B.A. in Economics; from Columbia University Business School in New York City, NY with a M.B.A (Beta Gamma Sigma); Teacher Training Certificate from Shady Hill School, Cambridge, MA.

Chuck Burdick: Senior Search Consultant
Mr. Burdick has 38 years experience in five NAIS independent schools. He spent 26 consecutive years in boarding schools, 12 in day schools and 24 years in K-12 schools. Prior to his most recent appointments at Cary Academy, NC, he held positions at Kent School, CT; Phillips Exeter Academy, NH; Milton Academy, MA; and Princeton Day School, NJ. Before joining Carney, Sandoe & Associates in July 2005 as a Search and Consulting Associate, he was the first full-time Head of Upper School at Cary Academy before serving as the school’s founding Dean of Faculty. In addition, he has served as a teacher of English and American literature (including AP); dormitory resident and head; coach; admissions, financial aid, and college counseling officer; department chair (English, Library/Media Services); grant writer; and director of the Massachusetts Advanced Studies Program, a nationally recognized summer school for talented and underserved Massachusetts public school students. Mr. Burdick graduated from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT with a B.A. in English, and from Rutgers - the State University with a M.A. in English.
