Interns are more than just student teachers; they are considered to be valued members of our dedicated and talented faculty, and as such they are expected to bring their own skills, talents, creativity, and initiative into the classrooms.
In addition to the daily requirements specific to the classroom placements, interns attend a weekly meeting which provides the opportunity to share experiences with other interns and with the program director. Interns also participate in five half-day seminars developed for beginning teachers, and conducted by Teachers 21, a professional development consulting firm. These seminars consist of planned workshops focusing on topics of child development, teaching methods, lesson planning, classroom management, multiculturalism, and curriculum development.
Compensation Each of Park's 8-10 interns will receive a stipend of at least $1,200 per month September through June. Optional medical insurance is also available. Additional compensation is offered to interns who choose to take on extracurricular duties such as tutoring or coaching, teaching in Park's After-School Program.
Job Placement The Head of School and Director of Interns work to help interns find appropriate positions in independent, public schools, or in graduate programs of education following their year in training at Park. Park interns are highly regarded by many area schools and universities, and placement rates are high.
