Teaching With Technology
Program Description

Teaching With Technology was the first iteration of our faculty technology professional development program. It has evolved into our current Faculty Initiative with Technology (FIT). Funded by a special one-time gift of $100,000 from a generous parent family, its purpose was to fund faculty activities which:

  • focused on teaching and learning at Park School
  • involved the use of technology as a primary enabling tool
  • went above and beyond the generally expected level of technology integration at Park School

Funds paid for hardware, software, professional development, and certain services (e.g., Internet access, workshops, etc.) Participants were not paid directly, but release time was funded in order to facilitate the need for professional development time. All hardware and software purchased via grants became the property of Park School.

Grants went to individuals or to small groups of teachers. To qualify, participants made an appointment to discuss potential project ideas with Tom Smith. Tom then wrote up a proposal description with a supporting funding outline. Grants were selected by a committee consisting of: Tom Smith, Director of Information Technology Wanda Holland, Upper School Division Head Andrew Segar, Lower School Division Head

Grants were overseen by Tom Smith. Participants met regularly with a member of the Technology Department for support and guidance. Participants also shared their experiences with other faculty, especially at a special presentation at the end of the school year.
