Applying To Park

Ready to Apply?

Park’s application process typically begins in the early fall, with visits and assessments continuing through the winter. Decisions are announced in March. Inquiries for entrance to all grades continue to be welcomed throughout the spring and summer, and applications are accepted and new students enrolled as long as space allows.

Getting Started

The application process begins when you submit your online application with the $60 application fee. (A waiver of the fee is available upon request.) On the application (due January 10, 2020), tell us about your child, including their development and your thoughts on school needs for the upcoming years. Submitting your application early will give you more choices for a student visit, and the extra time will ensure that the file is complete. Please note that you are responsible for the school records and teacher evaluations (due January 24, 2020). If you are unsure if your file is complete, please contact the Admission Office

Our application process differs slightly depending on the grade for which you are applying. Choose a grade below and follow the numbered steps for the entire process.

  1. Parent Visit – Nothing will more fully inform you about the school and community than a visit to campus. Tours and conversations are vital in helping us learn about your child and family and understanding your goals for your educational journey. Please complete this inquiry form and contact Chris DeBlois to schedule your personal tour and interview.

  2. Complete the Application – Park’s online application requests family and student information that is the foundation for communication throughout your child’s candidacy. (Due January 10, 2020)

  3. 4. Schedule a Playgroup – So that the Park Admission team can observe your child in a setting with other children, we ask PreK applicants to participate in a playgroup with five other students. Kindergarten applicants participate in groups with eight other children. During the hour-long playgroup, children participate in circle time and snack time, play together, and complete a few developmental readiness tasks individually with an early childhood specialist. (All playgroups are held at the After-School Program Building at 255 Goddard Ave. on the following days. PreK: January 16 – 24, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.; Kindergarten: January 7–15, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.) To schedule your visit, please email Chris DeBlois after you have submitted your application.

Accommodations for Candidates with Disabilities

Policy with Regard to Candidates with Disabilities

The Park School will complete steps 1-6 below in the following instances:

When a parent or guardian of a child applying for admission notifies The Park School that, for the application process, the parent will be requesting a reasonable accommodation, auxiliary aid/service, or modification (collectively, “accommodation”) of the School’s policies, practices, or procedures based on the child’s disability; and

When a parent or guardian of a child applying for admission notifies The Park School that, if the child is admitted, the parent will be requesting a reasonable accommodation, auxiliary aid/service, or modification (collectively, “accommodation”) of the School’s policies, practices, or procedures based on the child’s disability.

  1. The appropriate School administrator, typically the Director of Admission, will invite the parents/guardians to have a discussion about the student and the specific disability at issue. The School reserves the right to ask an additional staff member from the School community to take part in this discussion.

  2. If accommodations are requested, the School may request appropriate documentation concerning the disability and/or the requested accommodation and may arrange to observe the child in their current classroom or childcare setting.

  3. Once the appropriate information is gathered, The Park School will conduct an individualized assessment of the applicant and his or her needs, ensuring that The Park School’s application process and eligibility criteria for admission do not screen out or tend to screen out applicants with disabilities.

  4. The Park School will assess and determine whether the requested accommodations are reasonable and necessary in order for the applicant to complete the application process for, or to attend Park School, as applicable. If The Park School believes the requested accommodations are not reasonable, Park School will determine whether it could implement alternative accommodations that would enable the applicant to access Park’s programs and benefits.

  5. The Park School will also assess and determine whether making the requested accommodations would constitute a fundamental alteration to the nature of the goods, services, facilities, or accommodations at the School.

A. If The Park School determines they would constitute a fundamental alteration, it will then determine whether the School could implement alternative accommodations that would not constitute a fundamental alteration.

B. If the requested accommodations (or alternative accommodations identified by The Park School in accordance with paragraph 5a) do not constitute a fundamental alteration, the School will:

i. For the application process, implement the accommodations as requested.

ii. For the admissions decision, determine whether to admit the applicant consistent with The Park School’s admissions preference structure and in a matter which does not screen out or tend to screen out applicants with disabilities.

6. The Head of School will review and approve any decision to (a) deny accommodations during the application process and (b) any decision to deny admission to an applicant with a disability on the basis of fundamental alteration. The Park School shall notify the child’s parent, in writing, of the reason(s) for the denial.
