Bus Service

Park School students live in more than 30 communities in the Boston metropolitan area. We understand that school operated transportation can be a great service to parents, and we are eager to provide transportation to mitigate our carbon footprint and to create greater access to transportation for our community.

The School operates five bus routes for students, based on population and safe pick-up and drop-off locations. Registration is required for all buses, which arrive by 8am and leave School at 3:15pm or 4:45pm. Bus routes for the 2018-19 school year are:

*Park offers free transportation from the Forest Hills and Brookline Village MBTA stations and surrounding neighborhoods. All other bus services have a $2,800 family-based annual fee.

  • What happens when a child misses the bus?

    If a child misses the bus in the morning, it is the parent/caregiver's responsibility to transport him or her to school.  If a child misses the bus from Park in the afternoon, he or she should notify a faculty or staff member at carpool who will assist him or her in contacting a parent/caregiver from the Front Desk.  If a child misses the last bus of the day, the parent or caregiver must arrange to pick him or her up.  If there is a later bus available, Upper Division students may elect to go to study hall and wait for the 4:45 bus.  Unfortunately, younger children are not allowed to wait in the lobby for this length of time and need to be picked up as soon as possible.
  • If a child has a problem on the bus, how and who will inform parents?

    Problems on the bus are reported by a student to the bus monitor, his or her homeroom teacher or advisor or to one of the Division Heads. The Division Head will call the parents to inform them about the issue and about what is being done to resolve it.  If a student is causing problems on the bus, the bus driver or bus monitor will inform the School, who will talk to the student, and if necessary, call the parents.  Students who continually misbehave may be suspended for a period of time or indefinitely.
  • What happens if a child's parent/caregiver is not present at the afternoon bus stop?

    If a parent/caregiver is not present, the default procedure is for the child to remain on the bus for the remainder of the route and be driven back to School. When you register for the bus, you have the ability to authorize your child to be dropped off with other Park families who are at the bus, with siblings, or alone.   • How does my child bring a guest on the bus?

    A friend who does not normally ride the bus may come home with your child on an occasional basis. Written permissions must be received by 10:00 a.m. on the day the friend will ride the bus.  

    • The host family should send a note to the Front Desk stating your child's name, the name of the guest, and the date the guest will ride.
    • The guest family also sends a note to the Front Desk stating that their child is going home with a friend on the bus. 
    • If the guest is in the Lower or Middle Division, his or her parents sends a written note to the teacher saying that the guest will be riding the bus with your child on the appropriate day. 
  • Are there seat belts on the bus?

    While there are seat belts on some buses, Federal and State laws do not require them. Buses are "compartmentalized" for safety. This means that there are extra fully padded and cushioned high back seats.  Additionally, seat belts can pose a problem in getting young children out of the bus in the event of a fire.
  • Can we join the bus during the School year?

    Yes, you can join during the year assuming there is space available.  Costs are pro-rated based upon the number of months the family uses the bus service.
