In my writing elective, I remind students that critique is not about finding fault—it’s about partnership.
We celebrate what’s strong in a piece of writing and then offer ideas or curiosity that might make it even stronger. When done with care, critique becomes a gift: honest, encouraging, and focused on growth.
That same spirit guides our work this year as we take part in the self-study for our accreditation with the Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE). Every ten years, independent schools pause to reflect deeply on their mission, their practices, and their impact on students. It’s not a test to pass, but an opportunity to name our strengths and to imagine what’s possible as we grow.
The surveys all constituent groups will soon receive are an essential part of this process. Your reflections—what you’ve experienced, what you value, and what you hope for—will help us tell a full and honest story of our school. When our self-study is complete, a visiting team of colleagues from other AISNE schools will join us on campus. They will listen, learn, and share their perspective—offering us the kind of constructive, collegial feedback that strengthens schools across New England.
By adding your voice, you join in this community-wide conversation about who we are and who we aspire to be. Your partnership ensures that the story we tell is authentic, and that the path ahead is guided by both pride in what we do well and hope for what we can do even better. Thank you in advance for the gift of your feedback.
