Join us at Picnic at Park, Friday, September 5, 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the main field. Bring your picnic blankets! There will be pizza (including gluten-free), a full FLIK barbecue, and beverages. All Park families are welcome!
In preparation for this event, in June, we at Park invited all students to participate in a contest to design the t-shirt we would distribute to all students at this year’s picnic – a shirt we knew students would also wear on Spirit Days throughout the year.
We received a wide range of submissions from students at almost every grade level. These ranged from “Simple and Sincere” efforts on the part of Park’s youngest students who simply wanted to say “We Love Park” to elaborate graphics that presented new ways to look at Park’s logo, iconography, and core values. It was a hard decision, and we are very grateful to everyone who participated!
After much consideration, we narrowed the choices down to three lead contenders and chose a winner: Cecily M, Grade 5. Congratulations, Cecily!
Cecily’s submission was a beautiful, hand-drawn tree inspired by the Community Tree in Park’s lobby. It also integrated Park’s logo and the attributes of The Park Portrait: Joyful Learners, Mindful Leaders, Skillful Communicators, Practiced Advocates, Compassionate Collaborators, and Creative Problem Solvers. These characteristics represent the intellectual and social-emotional skills that define Park students during their educational journey at Park and in preparation for the lives they will lead beyond Park. These attributes also guide Park’s teachers as they examine and define our curriculum and instructional practices, and guide them as they pursue educational excellence. The Portrait defines what it means at Park to learn with purpose, strive for success, balance well-being, and achieve and contribute as valuable members of our community.
We look forward to offering this challenge again next year – and hope many students will begin thinking about the ways in which they can show their Park Pride on behalf of the entire community!
