It All Starts With…“Yet”

Park Perspectives

At this point in the school year, it is natural for families to look ahead and wonder: Is my child ready for what’s next?

We are hearing thoughtful questions about skills, benchmarks, and whether additional support may be needed over the summer. This is where one small, powerful word matters deeply: yet.

At Park, “yet” reflects our shared belief that learning is a process, not a fixed point. A child may not be reading a certain level, mastering a math concept, or demonstrating independence in a particular way—yet. That does not signal a gap in potential; it signals where they are on their developmental path. Our work as educators is to meet each child right there and move them forward with intention, care, and expertise.

Grounded in our mission and the Park Portrait of a Graduate, we strive to help students find joy in challenge, advocate for themselves, lead with compassion, and achieve with integrity. These qualities are not developed all at once, nor on a rigid timeline. They grow over time through meaningful experiences, responsive teaching, and strong relationships.

Our teachers know your children well—as learners, as thinkers, and as people. They are continuously assessing, adjusting, and supporting growth in ways that are both developmentally appropriate and academically purposeful. As we move through the final months of the school year, this work continues with the same level of care and attention that has guided your child all year long.

We also want to reassure families that the information we gather about each child—their strengths, areas for growth, and the conditions in which they thrive—plays an important role in our planning for the year ahead. Class formation is a thoughtful, collaborative process. We consider each child holistically to ensure that they are placed in an environment where they will be both supported and stretched.

“Yet” invites us to hold space for growth. It encourages patience, trust, and partnership. Most importantly, it reminds us that children are not defined by where they are today, but by the trajectory they are on.

At Park, we believe deeply in that trajectory—and in every child’s capacity to keep growing.

Because it all starts with yet.
